The phenomenon of “infliction” in the Islamic moral and narrative tradition is usually considered as a supernatural consequence; meaning that blaming another supernaturally causes the individual to commit the same mistake. Although this interpretation is common in moral literature, it requires critical rereading from the perspective of contemporary moral philosophy and psychology studies. The issue of the present study is whether it is possible to explain infliction based on natural human cognitive and moral mechanisms and to set aside supernatural interpretations? The aim of this study is to present an integrated theoretical explanation of infliction that can clarify the connection between narrative sources, moral philosophy, and psychology and show how fault-finding and blaming others cause a decrease in self-awareness, weakening moral control, and activating suppressed tendencies in the human soul. To achieve this goal, the research method is analytical-conceptual in nature; Philosophical analysis reveals that derogatory blame causes a break between moral judgment and self-knowledge, and this break creates the ground for slippage. Psychological analysis independently confirms the same cycle: focused attention on the other's fault activates repressed content, limits the field of self-monitoring, and increases the likelihood of similar behavior.
