Middle adulthood involves rethinking values, and morality is particularly important, as character either stabilizes or is constrained by external challenges. Moral limitations can reduce adherence to principles, while strengthening it contributes to well-being and role modeling. This developmental quasi-experimental study, using a case-based ontographical approach grounded in developmental meta-theory (28), examined morality across seven dimensions. A purposive sample of 16 participants (aged 40–65) from Shiraz was selected, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using directed content analysis. Validity was confirmed through alignment with the meta-theory, team meetings, and expert review by six specialists. Analysis identified 14 key indicators, primarily in social, emotional, and sensory dimensions; the most frequent included corruption and favoritism, economic pressure, workplace influence, media and social media, ineffective laws, cultural gaps, and nonverbal cues. The social dimension played the greatest role in shaping moral information flow under external influences. External factors constrain moral behavior and often compromise principles, yet they also create opportunities for moral resistance. The findings emphasize the need for supportive policies, structural reforms, and media interventions. This study fills the gap in systematically examining solely external influences on midlife morality and provides a basis for targeted interventions.
