Ethics has a high status in Islam, and hadiths are a rich source of moral teachings. The present study aims to explain and analyze the theoretical functions of hadiths in the theoretical structure of Islamic ethics, because despite the importance of hadiths, a systematic examination of their role in moral theorizing requires more detailed research. The findings of the study show that hadiths have multiple theoretical functions in Islamic ethics. These functions include: explaining and determining moral propositions, explaining and conceptualizing key moral concepts, interpreting and clarifying the moral verses of the Holy Quran, and supplementing and supporting reason in moral cognition by explaining its limitations and providing revelational guidance. Hadiths are also presented as a source for examining and evaluating moral theories. By providing a systematic framework for understanding the theoretical functions of hadiths, this study emphasizes the fundamental and undeniable role of this source in the formation and enrichment of the Islamic moral system. Accurate understanding of these functions will pave the way for more effective use of this valuable resource in future research and development of educational and promotional programs on Islamic ethics, and will contribute to a deeper understanding
